it started off as a peaceful prayer vigil but turned into a chaotic protest. police chief said there's been some gunfire in the crowd. at least one person has been shot tonight. >> we've been watching this all night long and can tell you that police have been using tear gas and bullhorns asking people to stay calm. we have various live images for you. this one an looks like a standoff there between protesters and police. night has fallen. it's gotten dark. >> a dangerous situation as well. we want to show you some images. this just happened not long ago. cnn's reporter, there he is. he got pushed to the ground. he was reporting in the downtown area to do that report on air and at the time somebody came right up and here it is, shoved him, new yorks him right to the

new york -- knocked to the ground. he's okay. >> police holding their line bear with us as these -- obviously, these camera photographers can sometimes pan around. here is a steadier shot from the helicopter where you can the officers. this was supposed to be a peaceful event. it started off as a prayer vigil and has turned to complete the man shot there in charlotte says they did not want violence to wreak out. -- to break out. >> and the person who was shot tonight -- there are mixed reports -- some say the person has been killed, others say life-threatening injuries -- that was the result of citizen on citizen violence. that was not a result of police on citizen violence. it was citizen on citizen violence. police, as you can see from this

in their riot gear as politicians and leaders, leaders from the community and church leaders are calling for calm town. more breaking news. brian sandoval has released a statement in the past hour, calling for a special session to talk about the raiders plan. he wants the session to take place sometime between october 7th and the 1th. in the statement, he says he's comfortable with the plan presented committee and believes it's a significant opportunity to improve tourism in southern nevada. he says he will release a formal agenda for the session at a later time. all right. we want to ging -- to bring your attention to the video behind us. this shows two robbers ripping off people as they eat at a downtown restaurant. >> this happened at tacos mexico off las vegas boulevard and st. louis.

this report. >> reporter: customers eating at this tacos mexico were terrorized by two robbers. the thieves ran out the door. police are hoping they can be recognized before they strike again. this was near the stratosphere casino show two violent thieves. look at the first suspect with the white shirt on. he comes up from behind the woman and swipes the cell phone from her see what happened. he steals her cell phone. a brief struggle occurs between the criminal and a man. the thief walks back to the woman and pums out his gun. the victims see the weapon and raise their hands in fear. suspect number two walks away. >> what's troubling is that this male when he met some sort of resistance was actually leaving the restaurant and comes back and he was a firearm in his waistband and that's when you

back. >> reporter: officer larry hadfield said the video is concerning. detectives say there is a possibility these men have done similar crimes in downtown las vegas. >> there are some similar robberies occurring in the area. however, the suspects are kind of changing. we're trying to identify if this is a -- is a crew of sorts. >> reporter: tacos mexico customer -- customer christian polely is not surprised. >> not surprising. $500, $600 per cell phone. >> ken wayne who frequents tacos mexico says this is alarming. >> i've been here before. i know this area is a little sketchy. >> reporter: police say it's critical these suspects are put behind bars right away. >> it's very important that we get these persons identified and make an arrest because -- you can see by this video that

sort -- resorted to violence. >> reporter: police need leads. if anyone has any information on the whereabouts of these robbers you are asked to call crimestoppers at 702-385-5555. reporting off las vegas boulevard and east st. louis, antonio castelan, news 3. now to a developing story. police in north las vegas searching for more potential victims after a doctor is arrested on lewdness charges tonight. police are looking for more victims. he was arrested after allegations were made that he inappropriately touched a patient. investigators are asking anyone who has had contact with him to call north las vegas police. a former ccsd teacher at legacy high school learned how long he will spend behind bars. frank bayer was sentenced to ten years. he admitted to a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.

relation. bayer took a plea deal on two felony counts. today he asked the judge for mercy. >> i have broken the law and i'm owning up to it. and i'm sorry for -- sorry. i[ inaudible ] >> bayer is parolive five years. traffic on the north strip is back to normal following a scare at the stratosphere this afternoon. metro police say a suspicious backpack was left inside the hotel and it was beeping. as a precaution, police shut down the boulevard in front of the hotel and cleared customers and guests and employees out. in light of what's been happening along the east coast this week, police say they can never be too cautious.

back live to charlotte, north carolina. this video showing how tense it is between police and protesters. what you just saw there. police officer in riot gear and an aggressive move there to get somebody to move back. >> the crowd reacting in a shocked way as that man just kind of lunges back into -- into their direction. shortly after that incident, that's when the tear gas was dispercented. police are trying to protect some of the buildings. we've seen people lewding, making their way into some of the shops there. but the standoff is far from over. >> one person has been confirmed shot on citizen on citizen violence. others have been taken to the hospital. police wearing gas masks as tear gas has been shot into the

well, wnbc has obtained surveillance video that shows allegedly bombing suspect, ahmad khan rahami, wheeling luggage down the street. it's believed rahami is seen in the distance as he pauses and walks towards the camera. authorities believe the suitcase contained a pressure cooker bomb. rahami planted that bomb a short time later. this was video from 8:30 saturday night. that's the same time an explosionok away that injured 31 people. he's been charged with planting those devices and several others in new jersey. people in new york city because of this are understandably nervous after the events of the past week. police say hundreds of 911 callers have reported suspicious packages. more than 400 to be exact. none of the packages contained explosives but police respond very seriously to all of the reports. the police commissioner says despite the trouble it causes,

wants them always to or the report -- them always to report what they see. a homeless man and another man are being hailed as heroes. they contacted police after finding the bag near a train station in elizabeth, new jersey. federal investigators say the bag was left by ahmad khan rahami. parker realized something was wrong with the heavy backpack after seeing wires. >> i watched could have been the robot. i seen what the bomb did to the robot. >> i consider myself a person that was in the right place at the right time. i was glad i was able to do something to keep other people from being hurt. >> a group is putting parker up in a hotel and an online fund-raising campaign has raised thousands of dollars for him. parker says all he wanted to

innovation. they've added a feature to the latest version of its operating software to help deal with temperature issues. temperature control. in fact, it's designed to keep that temperature cool in case a child for pet is left inside. it will keep that temperature below 105 degrees by turning on the events and air conditioner. the feature remains on for 12 hours after the driver car. and as we go from that story, we're talking about the cooler temperatures. >> maybe they have time to sort of test the technology. >> hope it comes with the blue circle around the cars. >> yeah. >> that would be fun. >> like a spaceship. well, we had a brief light shower in southeastern parts of the valley about an hour or so ago right before the sun went down. you combine that with the setting town.

3's downtown jerry brown captured this picture over green valley high school. chad graves caught it, too. had to be quick. it didn't last long but it lit up the sky with nice colors. let's check in with red rock resort. we started out with some sunshine. that didn't last long. as the clouds thickened during the course of the day, it prevented from warming up. boy, those clouds lowered and hugged the rocks. the rain was all around us. farther to the east up at zion. i love this shot. a few light rain showers, low clouds and a majestic site. laughlin, 17/100ths of rain r most of the showers as expected, sown parts of the county. boulder city, look at that.

college and 95. mesquite has had 1/100ths and that's it as far as measurable rain goes. a lot of neighborhoods got some drops. not enough to be measured. we're in the 70s valley wide. 81 in pahrump and 76 out at the lake. officially the high temperature at mccarran that was cloud induced below normal 84. 8 degrees below normal. tomorrow, we'll start out, might dip down in the upper 60s. low to possibly mid-80s with the sunshine but a lot of wind. these are the wind speeds expected. sustained. there will be gusts up and over 40 miles an hour especially around the edges of the valley in the wind-prone areas. two bands of the rain. the first one that gave us that sprinkle on the southeast parts of town, that probably won't impact the valley. number two up to the north, this will stay north of

valley but the winds will be getting your attention. they will gust over 40. the whole thing slides on by by friday -- on friday. 49 on the mountain. 50s in lincoln county. 57 in searchlight. high temperatures tomorrow afternoon, not getting out of the 50 on the mountain. 90 on the lake. death valley double digits. there that's hoe you know the seasons are changing. tomorrow at solstice. i think the showers and storms tonight will be well north of the valley. tomorrow's high expected to reach 84 but it's the high winds that will get your attention, especially in the afternoon. that's when we expect those gusts over 40 miles per hour. your seven-day forecast, leftover breezes on friday. right now, the timing should knock them down by friday afternoon. that means the weekend, oh, my. mid-80s. lows in the mid-60s. that's what i'm talking about.

situation in charlotte, where protesters are protesting the death of a man there in charlotte by a police officer, they have now -- they've been able to approach the charlotte police station. >> this protest has gone through a whole new level outside of charlotte police headquarters. they have yanked down an american flag. so this huge police presence, we don't know if they came but they have created a massive wall between them and their -- basically their home. >> well, and we also know that this has been a violent not in charlotte. look at this. that's a police officer pushing back a man there. so it is very tense and we also have reports of citizen on citizen violence. one person shot dead. others rushed to the hospital.
